Here’s some video I shot of the Ferrari event this morning. After reflecting on his recent misfortunes in the early races of the season, Massa talks about his feelings on the proposed winner takes all points system. Before you ask, the lady on the right is Dr Lisa Lilley, Shell’s fuel doctor.
Massa is quite right. “Winner take all” is not good for a sport that is a season long sport.
Bernie is right, you do not look at the person who finished 2nd in a 100m sprint (and this isn’t a personal attack…just an attack on the idea!). But a 100m sprint is not decided over 17-20 races a year.
Personally I prefer the FOTA solution but it seems that Mr. Ecclestone is dead set on getting this system into F1 – just another battleground in a year where the racing will be great, and so will the battles behind the scenes!
Massa looks very confident in this press release.
But how can he?He´s sitting on a car that potentially can be 1 minute behind Brawn on this race distance, according to test results.
That result would be a disaster for Ferrari image,if you consider their competitivity over the last few years.
Girl on the right “I DUN WANNA BE HERE!” 🙂
Same as the bloke on the left then! 🙂
I’ve often wondered about the fuel side of things, so it’s interesting that a representative was with Ferrari.
We hear all about what brand of tyres teams are running, what make engine they have and so on, but fuel very rarely gets a look in.
Is the fuel as much a technical battle as other areas of the car? Are different mixtures run over a weekend?
Thanks for the video James, cool stuff!!
Just posting to note that it doesn’t appear on my Firefox browser. I had to stick it into Internet Explorer for the video to appear. On Firefox it was just a blank background where the video appears.

Wow, who was that lucky kid who got to sit next to Massa during Massa’s press conference
… huh?… what’s that you say?…. Kimi? No, Kimi’s a well built man who ozzes confidence, that’s never the 2007 World champion!
Michael
It works fine on my Firefox on Linux
(Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009030422 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.7)
You need the Flash plugin of course.
I spent the three minutes of this video watching Kimi Raikkonen…the man is brilliant. Who else could look so thoroughly disinterested in his surroundings!!
For me Kimi is the more confident of the two drivers. Massa probably knows he’s gonna have to deal with Kimi firing on all cylinders this year and while he’s up for the fight I don’t think it will be long before the Iceman knocks the fight out of Massa.
The great thing about Kimi is that he is his own person. Im sick of the lazy tabloid journalists calling him dull and boring, for me he is quite the opposite. Is dull and boring not towing the party line and coming out with the corporate spiel the PR dept tell you? I have to say if I was lucky enough to be an F1 driver, I would hate the press crap and only enjoy the driving!
I really hope he does have his game face on cus F1 is soo more exciteing with Kimi on form!
Has everyone got short memories……. not long after Bernie muted the medals idea, who thought it would be great… Massa. I remember reading lots of articles on how he thought it was a better system Funny how he’s changed his mind… it’s almost an exact copy of DeMontezemolo’s.. Always a good idea to keep your mind in tune with your boss thinks… let me quote
“Felipe Massa has given a tentative thumbs up to Bernie Ecclestone’s proposed medal system, though he denies that his interest is personal after he narrowly lost out to Lewis Hamilton in last year’s world championship despite having won more races.”

What does a fuel doctor do? Looks after people who are injured by fuel and related accidents?
